Jesus, "the Son of David," told His followers that the Scriptures pointed to the Messiah’s suffering and sacrifice—something they overlooked due to their expectations of a conquering king. Similarly, the writer of Samuel describes David's wilderness experience, during which he endured ten years as a fugitive, fleeing oppression from the time he was anointed king until his coronation. This theme of enduring suffering while awaiting God’s kingdom illustrates that God's redemptive plans often contrast with our misguided expectations of ease and success. Instead, God uses our struggles and heartaches as pathways to His eternal purposes.

Every day we are being shaped and formed by the things we give our attention to, by the habits (good or bad) that we develop. Spiritual disciplines, or practices, are habits that create space for God to act in our lives. These habits create conditions by which the Holy Spirit can shape our hearts to look like Jesus'. Connecting with God through Solitude, Community, and Outreach form three broad categories of spiritual practices through which we experience God and His grace. Join us as we dig deeper into these categories and seek to build habits that will transform our hearts.
